10k PMS Empty 10k PMS

Post  aln Sun Jun 06, 2010 9:25 am

Our GL Elite (M/T) just had its 10k PMS last Friday at Nissan Gallery Shaw.

works done (3 hours duration)...
- change oil and filter
- tightened body roll
- replaced microfilter (for aircon)
- check all lights
- top-up fluids (brake, windshield washer)
- replaced and top-up radiator coolant
- opening and cleaning of all four brakes

costing...
- oil filter - 333.93
- mineral oil (4 liters) - 732.16
- a/c filter - 1,983.93
- labor - 893.75
- miscellaneous - 133.93
- evat (12%) - 489.3
TOTAL - 4567

my spark plugs was not replaced since our GL is one of the units released with "platinum plugs" which will last up to 20k or more pa ata.

@blooperoo, sir share ko lang, when I had my 10k pms on my A/T GL I opted for fully synthetic oil which dramatically improved my fuel consumption from 8km/L to 10-11km/L now at pure city driving. Then on my 15k pms, I strictly instructed that they change the oil filter and top-up the oil, so i only purchased 1 liter, wherein 1/3 lang naman nagamit to top-up. I saved the bottle of 2/3 synt oil para gamitin ko on 25k pms. since 20k pms papa-palitan ko na yung oil (after 10k of use).

and matagal din ako lagi nag iintay pag pms, usually almost half day. Pero ok lang, ang mainam naman dun ay weekends ako nagpupunta at konti tao. I even at times bring my wife and 1yr 7 months baby. eh di naka libre pa kami ni aircon, may tv at lounge, a small space for kids to play, but on weekends, the kids can run arround the shop - of course, with strict parent's supervision. Dala ko laptop and pati si missis, meron din kasi naman wifi sa casa, kung wala naman meron din naman usb na sunbroadband kami dala. water and coffee is complementary. Pag sinuswerte, minsan meron pang juice at corndog na libre. anyway, this is in westgate alabang. Smile

i agree, medyo hindi nga consistent ang nissan sa PMS ng GL natin. im no fan of synthetic oils kasi mahal saka for me as long as regular ang palit ng oil eh same lang din ang outcome nito (im not sure about the FC improvement kasi hindi ko pa nasubukan). ang alam ko dito is between 7-10k ang palitan pag synthetic, but most of the time nasa 10k. nung 10k pms ko, hindi pinalitan spark plugs ko kasi good for 15k daw yun pati yung air filter ko hindi din pinalitan. as for the aircon naman, i dont think na tatagal ng 30k yung filter, kung yung akin nga eh 10k pa lang ang dumi na eh ano pa kaya kung 30k?! hindi ko lang sure din kung mababawasan ang dumi one naayos ko na yung problema ko sa aircon (smoke coming in).

as for the letter, pwede natin gawin yun "once" organized na yung grupo at recognized na tayo ng nissan. dati nung naka mazda familia pa ako at member ako ng mazdatech, ang ginagawa namin ay meron nag-organize ng EB sa kia pasay tapos libre ang compression testing. for us siguro, once recognized na tayo pwede tayong mamili ng isang casa na maganda ang PMS service at warranty claims tapos write them a letter stating kung ano ang gusto natin "or" if possible ito yung mga gusto natin. basta ang importante eh maka-establish tayo ng good relationship sa casa na yun. ang problema lang nito is sa isang casa lang tayo pupunta na baka malayo sa ibang owners....

kaya please post your experiences sa mga casa para we can avoid those who are giving bad services at the same time ma enlighten tayo sa mga practices nila...

Hi guys.
I read an article in Yahoo that the 5,000-km (Yahoo called it 3,000-mile) benchmark for oil change was done way back in the 1950s. Due to advances in engine design, Yahoo says oil change can come beyond this old benchmark (how "beyond", Yahoo did not say) According to my SA, an oil change using the regular oil at 5,500 kms is normal. I've been using fully synthetic oil and I come in every 6,000 kms (first for oil filter change and oil top up, then the entire change at about 11,500 or 12,000 kms). But please note that frequency of oil change is affected by the driving environment. Hence, my suggestion might be good for highway driving (which is my case) but not for city driving (which is essentially "stop-go" which tolls more on the engine).
The GL spark plug, according to my SA, needs to be changed every 100,000 kms. Repeat, 100,000 kms. (Note: I'm only sounding off my SA's repeat advice) To date, I have already logged 48,000 kms and I haven't changed my spark plug yet. My fuel consumption has also remained the same since day one. My SA may just be right.
I was also told that under normal driving environment the A/C filter needs to be changed every 20,000 kms. Just have it cleaned by air pressure every 5,000 kms (or 5,500 using the newer benchmark)
A tip: I come in to the casa at about 11:30 A. M. and I request the mechanic to drain the oil before he takes his lunch break. Then I take him to lunch. We come back an hour after and I can reasonably assume that all oil was drained. I can also reasonably expect that he gives extra attention to my GL. As a matter of fact, I have this "suki" mechanic who's been attending to my GL since day one. The advantage with having a "suki" mechanic is that he knows his way around your car. He is able to work more efficiently.
If you're driving an A/T GL, insist on having the front brake pads checked not later than 30,000 kms. Under reasonable use, it should be changed at 40,000 kms. The rear brake pads can reach up to 60,000 kms.

@steel pulse

@aln

The 100,000 km spark plug change is, per advice of my SA, from NMPI itself. Kindly validate this with your casa. One of us might have been given inaccurate information. Please keep me updated. Thanks.

Actually, my A/C filter was changed on my 30k PMS although as far as I know, the standard practice is 20K. Driving conditions vary from car to car and these affect the frequency of A/C filter change. To prolong the longevity of the filter, request the mechanic to clean it with pressurized air each time you bring in your vehicle for PMS (every 5k)

@steel pulse

according to my SA and the GL's manual, spark plugs are replaced during the 20k PMS. check up lang ang ginawa sa plugs ko.

@aln:

I think your SA got it wrong. Replacement of spark plugs at 20K is for engines without catalyst and using leaded gasoline (see Maintenance Booklet, page M-11). Obviously, GL's engine is not that.
On the other hand, the Owner's Manual does not prescribe how often the spark plugs should be replaced. It does mention, however, that spark plugs should be replaced according to the schedule provided for in the maintenance booklet and that platinum-tipped spark plugs last longer than ordinary ones (see page 8-10)
At the end of the day, I would have to trust the competence of my SA considering that during my 10k PMS, I asked him about spark plug replacement and he told me that GL's spark plug are to be replaced on 100K. During my 20K PMS, I again asked him the same question and he gave me the same answer.
My previous experience in my Vios is that spark plugs were to be replaced every 10K. When I changed spark plugs to Splitfire, the interval was increased to 20K.

thanks for the clarification sir regarding the manual... i guess mas reliable yung SA mo. maybe we can ask directly from NMPI kung ano talga ang lifetime ng spark plugs natin. matagal din ang 100k

I think we should. We should ask NMPI to re-train the SA's para hindi tayo nalilito.

Had my GL's 10K PMS today at Mantrade. Ok naman ang service at usapan. My SA clearly explained everything

1. Oil filter change
2. Oil change (fully synthetic)
3. clean and adjust breaks
4. clean AC micro filter
5. Engine wash

Total with labor - P5,928.85

Next on my 15K PMS, top up na lang daw yung oil about a liter.

20K pa daw yung palit ng AC micro filter so I will do it at that point. Also about the Sparkplugs, he said its 40K.

Sayang lang at naulanan at natrapick si George (that's the name of the car) kaya syang yung palinis nila.

hmmm, hindi ba ma-void warranty nun sir? this is my first time to own a brand new car kaya medyo takot ako mawalan ng warranty kasi ang laki ng nilabas na amount and part of that payment is the warranty. i agree na sobrang mahal and inconsistent ang mga dealers dito sa atin.
