Shock Mount Cover for 170 pesos (DIY) Empty Shock Mount Cover for 170 pesos (DIY)

Hi Guys,

If any of you would want to create your own shock mount cover, I found a way of doing it by purchasing the following items from Saizen, Robinsons Galleria:

1. EVA Pad
2. Strong White Type double adhesive

Just follow the instructions below on how to assemble the two pieces in order to create the cover.

1. EVA pad and White double adhesive

2. Get one piece of the EVA pad and white adhesive and mark the shape of pad using a pencil (3 shapes per double adhesive). Use also any tape to mark the middle circle. This is because the shock absorber is a bit higher than the shock mount and the inner circle will serve as a space for the shock absorber to slide into when the cover is seated finally in the shock mount.

All in all, it should be six (3 for each shock).

3. Cut it and check if it seats properly in the shock mount. Mark the location of the adhesive using white chalk to assist in the installation.

4. Assemble the 3 adhesive together and stick one of the adhesive to the EVA pad.

5. Remove the final protective cover of the double sided adhesive (on the other end) and insert on top of the shock mount. Use the chalk marked area done in step 3 as a guide.

Overall it took around 15-20 minutes to complete. Hope this helps. Very Happy

May version din ako using rubber molding na nilalagay sa mga paa ng tables para hindi maka scratch at gumalaw galaw. I already fitted it and it seems ok naman. I plan to attach it using sealant adhesive since manipis lang ang sides nito for a double-sided tape to adhere to. Post ko yung finished product once done, kasi laging may ulan at wala akong garahe kaya di ko maumpisahan.

Question lang - so it will protect the nut ng shock, but tingin ko maiipunan pa rin ng tubig ang metal parts kung saan naka mount ang shock since pede pa rin mag collect yun ng water.

To answer your question, di kakalawangin yung surrounding metal component such as the shock mount for 3 obvious reasons:
1. The shock mount will not hold and store water since it is not watertight and it is purposely built to drain water.
2. The internal temperature of the engine bay is hot enough to evaporate any remaining water after a long drive. Add the fan blower and pretty much the engine bay will be dry even if the body is wet for whatever reason.
3. The metal components are coated to resist rust from building up.

The reason why I placed the shock mount cover is because I did not want to repetitively remove water build up in the shock mount after I clean the car. To be honest, most of the entry and mid entry level cars built and assembled in the Philippines don't really have this feature as a result of cost cutting measures implemented by the manufacturers.

@ sir ianski

good morning. regarding the query kung kakalawangin ang nut sa shock mount, ganun po ang nangyari sa unit ko. napansin nung nagwash ng car ko at pinakita sakin. nasabihan ko na dealer ko (NGQA) about this over the phone. he advised to bring the unit so they can take pictures. will post an update after my visit.

I just found out na walang kwenta yung cover na nakalagay sa shock mount from casa. Napansin ko kasi na may play yung cover nung naglinis ako and when I popped it out yun puno ng tubig and parang nagsisimula na magcorrode yung nut ng shock absorber.
