Best mags and tire upgrade for GL?

OO nga, dapat nag mini eb tayo. Sobrang putik ng GL ko ng mag park ako malapit sa may legend hotel.

Hi eggy_reyes, question po. Since I noticed you are still using the same mags that came with our GL, ok lang yun kaya even if you installed a wider tire? Please pardon my ignorance sa mag wheels as I am a noob pagdating sa mags

so thats from 185/60 r15 to 205/60 r15 right? well, definitely wider tires will give our GL a more balance stance specially on cornering and provides more contact and grip on the road. But please enlighten me kung ok lang di magpalit ng mags in that case. Thanks in advance

Hi Yoogix. The GL's stock tires are 185/65/r15. I have changed mine to 205/60/r15. If you take notice i have increased the tires width by 20mm (205-185) which gives the car a more aggressive look and hopefully better grip on the road. The tire series have change too from 65 to 60. The decrease by 5 or should i say 5% (as series rating is actually in %) is to compensate for the increase in width of 20mm and not make the tire's sidewall (width x series%) too high. If the sidewalls do not get changed drastically and considering that i have not changed my mags @ 15in then the overall diameter shouldn't be much affected. Speedometer readings should have 0 to slight discrepancy.

as per the tire size calculator my tire change resulted to less than 1% speedometer difference or discrepancy.

As for my actual experience. Grip is 100% better thus safer. and i really like the wider look/stance

Thanks sir for sharing, the tire calculator is a big help. The GL Limted ed has a stock tires at 205/55R16 compared to the GL stock tires 185/60R15 when computing in the tire calculator it shows that the gl lmtd has a 4.55% difference in tire diameter which is way pass the safety limit of 3%. Speedometer diffrence is 4.759% which is too slow according to the site. Couldn't Nissan Phil overlook this safety measures?

sir stock tire is 185/65

the difference would only be 1.6%. negligible na rin yun.

in speed terms: your speedometer is only showing 98km/hr but your actual speed would be 100km/hr. basically due to a larger total diameter. and let's give NMPI the benefit of a doubt na inadjust nila yung meters ng limited ed.

can i know sir kung saan mo nakita yung 3% safety limit on changing tire sizes? my 2nd choice actually was 195/65/r15 which are oem specs of the new altis and lower variant na civic. if ito yung ginamit ko 2+% difference from 185/65/r15. pero gusto ko rin talaga yung size na ito

and for the ones who plan to change to 17in rims. (ako rin nagpaplano kasi kung may pera na hahahaha)

i really think na mas pang mpv or med. size sedan ang 215/45/r17 compared to the commonly used 205/45/r17 on compact sedans.

both have less than 1% difference from our stock size but id be more comfortable with the load capacity and sidewall of the 215/45 compared to the 205/45. iba kasi ang Pinas.... malubak talaga!

sana lang nga walang rubbing issue if 215/45/r17. i think nabasa ko dito na proven na dito na walang rubbing issue the 205/45/r17. who's the first to try the 215/45?

i don't think that 45 series on an MPV is advisable. remember that the GL is much heavier than sedan plus you carry an additional 2 seating capacity. if the car is going to be used for car shows or hindi naman siya laging puno then i guess ok lang. but if you are going to use it as a family car like it is supposed to be then you are compromising the safety of your passengers and your GL. for family use siguro pwede na yung 50 series para safe. opinion ko lang ito and i might be wrong though, hehehe...

pwede siguro bawiin sa lapad ng gulong, 215 above tapos naka-nitrogen para not too much stress on the tires...

actually tama ka. pwede bawiin sa lapad. kasi pag masmalapad tumatangkad din yung sidewall.

pwede rin nga iconsider yung 205/50/r17 at may ganyang sukat sa yokohama c.drive and it's rated at 93W still an improvement from the stock tires at 88H (http://www.yokohamatire.ph/index.php?page=drive_series_c) pero 2.5% difference nya from oem specs. acceptable pa naman!

meron ding 215/45/r17 with their a.drive r1 series na may rating na 91W still better than stock tires' 88H (http://www.yokohamatire.ph/index.php?page=drive_series_ar1) good thing here though is less than 1% difference from oem spec

yung porma nalang at kung may rubbing issue ang dapat sana madiscover natin

Thank you sir, now i understand the meaning of those letters and numbers on the tires. Ang sarap tuloy mag upgrade to 17" with tires na 225/45R17. pag nag ka budget upgrade ako ulit hehehe..Pero there's so much to learn before upgrding the mags. Kung meron expert naman sa mags kindly explain naman technically, yun offset medjo malabo for me d ko gaanong maintindihan and yun actual fitting ng mags sa tires meron daw match ang rim and tires, dapat i consider daw to when changing your rims and tires.

My frend took me for a ride sa 1996 cefiro with size 18" rim with na naka 40 series na naka lowering springs. Mababa sya kaya medjo sumasayad sa humps pero yung tagtag lang d ko naramdam minimal lang to think na naka 40 series. sabi nya big factor daw ang good suspension ng vehicle at yun lowering springs. very stable tumakbo yun car.

what can you upgrade without changing your mags:
1. tire brand and type - i suggest yokohama c.drive 3.5K each or a.drive 3.3K each
2. tire size and specs - pwedeng masmalapad pwede ring masmatangkad... bahala kayo yung akin 205/60/15 super swak!!! pwede ring 195/65/15 if you want to increase the height a little
3. threadlife - if you've use your tires for 20,000 to 30,000 kms more or less you're already at 50% of your threadlife (depending on use). you may now go back to 100% and still be able to sell your used tires na pwede pa rin naman.
